2024 Earth Day - Planet vs. Plastics

Today, 22 April, we celebrate Earth Day as a reminder to take action for a healthier planet in the future.

This year, Earth Day's theme is Planet vs. Plastic, continuing the fight to end plastics by calling for a 60% reduction in the production of all plastics by 2040 and aiming to create a plastic-free future. Planet vs. Plastics is a campaign to educate people about why we should stop using plastics. Plastics pose a threat to humanity and the planet due being oil and toxic chemicals based, and there are huge health risks linked to infertility, obesity, strokes and more.

Alarmingly, the plastic industry has produced more plastic in the last decade than in the entire 20th century, and annual plastic production has grown to more than 380 million tonnes per year.

The goals of EARTHDAYORG's are to raise public awareness of the impact of plastic on humanity and the environment; to phase out all single-use plastics by pushing for a strong UN treaty on plastic pollution in 2024; and to fight for policies that end fast fashion and reduce the amount of plastic used in production.

Investing in innovative technologies and materials is also a goal to reduce the presence of plastics. At Mykor, we are developing a mycelium insulation board made from industrial waste and mycelium that has thermal, acoustic and fire resistance properties. MykoFoam is a sustainable alternative to conventional insulation materials that contain plastics such as polyisocyanurate and polystyrene, and has higher performance.

Insulating your home with MykoFoam can not only increase energy efficiency, but also reduce the amount of plastic by switching to a bio-based material.
