Mykor´s 3rd Birthday

Three years ago, in January 2021, Mykor was founded with a mission: decarbonising the construction industry with low-carbon biomaterials.

Our story starts back in 2019 when Valentina Dipietro, an award-winning biodesigner and researcher met Olivia Page, an internationally renowned architectural and circular designer at Green Lab in London. Their vision was to make construction materials scalable, circular and affordable.

In June 2022, after winning an Innovate UK grant, Mykor’s growth was catalysed, our co-founders started fundraising for the first time. In September 2022, we moved our R&D Lab to Bristol to focus on product development. By the end of 2022, we had 6 team members across our two sites: Bristol and Lisbon.

2023 was a major year for us, MykoFoam achieved incredible milestones, such as fire performance improved by 93%, mould resistance improved from a category 1-4 to a category 6-7 material and thermal conductivity reduced by 12%. We showcased our insulation panel across 3 different countries in over 15 events and MykoFoam was featured in three material libraries: 2050 Materials, First Plan It and LINA.

As our brand grew, so did our team. From 6 people across two different countries, we were now 11 across three sites. By December 2023, our Pilot Factory in Montemor-O-Novo, Portugal was commissioned and ready for production.

We closed the year on a high: Mykor was nominated for the Earthshot Prize 2024 under the Build a Waste-Free World and Fix our Climate goals which is a testament to our radical commitment to sustainability across our supply chain.

Looking back to our achievements, we are so proud to have grown so much in the last three years and we want to give a heartfelt thanks to all of you who have supported us along the way.

Happy 3rd birthday Mykor!
